"The sound of his roar is imprinted on my mind. Characterised by his dark black mane, this magnificent Kalahari lion acknowledged our presence with a roar during our early morning safari in the Kalahari Plains camp, Botswana. A symbol of strength and stateliness, the chief of the savannah reigns as the most celebrated African predator and is tasked through "divide and conquer” to manage healthy herds and control the population, targeting the weak and vulnerable." Deon De Villiers - conservationist and wildlife photographer
lion numbers have plummeted over the past 20 years. the loss of these magnificently romantic beasts would cause a tragic and widespread torrent of negative ecological impetus. today lion is listed as "vulnerable” on the international union for conservation of nature (IUCN) red list of threatened species.
