"On a cold and misty night in Qorokwe camp, Okavango from the comfort of my bedroll, I could hear the mellifluous song of African elephants sharing their infinite wisdom - a well versed conversation of experience passed on from generation to generation, knowledge hardcoded and essential for their survival. As morning dawned I headed quietly towards the savannah to share in the glorious sunrise with my noble companions. It was then that Africa stepped into my view - bathed in pink-petalled glory - and took my breath away." Deon De Villiers - conservationist and wildlife photographer
alarmingly in africa around 100 elephants are slaughtered a day by poachers taking part in illegal ivory trade. ivory is desired purely for it's ornamental properties and nothing else ... a careless need that is fuelled by underworld syndicates and high stake demands.
today the elephant is listed as "vulnerable" on the international union for conservation of nature (IUCN) red list of threatened species.
