Which destination was the driving force behind the Mindful Escape collection?
Macayla - In a time where we are limited to where we can escape to physically, Mindful Escape embraces our new reality and takes inspiration from things that allow us to mentally escape and dream... there was no specific destination, more 'a mindful escape' that evoked the feelings I associate with the joys of travel to my favourite destinations, and the freedom of exploring and enjoying these.
The smell of the ocean air, the feeling of salt tinged skin and sunshine on your face, the vibrant colours of the local market, the sublime smells of fresh cuisine, the time to watch the sunset, dappled light and fading colours... a feeling of contentment, relaxation and carefree abandon.
Your favourite photoshoot location?
Natalie - That’s a tough one to answer. We have shot in a few really beautiful locations around Sydney, most recently Newcastle. We absolutely fell in love with this seaside gem and its magnificent beaches and ocean pools. It had a very English seaside town vibe to it but with the Aussie sunshine and soft sand. A big thank you to all the locals there for being so warm and welcoming!
Where do Bird & Knoll want to travel to next?
Natalie - We cannot wait for the world to open up so that we can travel to a few of our favourite destinations and explore new ones. Macayla adores Mexico and for me, I have a love affair with Italy and Greece but am also craving the energy of New York.
Macayla - I would pack my bags and head to Mexico any day of the week... maybe it is because of the sublime margaritas, but it really is my happy place and somewhere that re-energises and always inspires me. I have been to Mexico so many times but always find something new and exciting each time which draws me back yet again.
Sri Lanka, Greece, Portugal, Columbia and Denmark are also on the 'lets go and explore' list... however, for the moment I am lucky enough to have the freedom to be able to enjoy my own backyard of New Zealand and explore all the wonderful places my homeland has to offer. We recently hired a camper-van and drove to the top of the North Island, something I would normally not think to do... it was truly magical and so breathtakingly beautiful, rugged, isolated and delightfully, uniquely kiwi!
